Pat Cross Art Juries into WVDCH Biennial

The West Virginia Legislature and the Commission on the Arts present the 21st Biennial Juried Exhibition at the State Museum in the West Virginia Capitol Complex from November 17, 2019 to February 18, 2020.

"It is my honor to congratulate the West Virginia artists whose work has been selected for the Juried Exhibition," states Governor Jim Justice in the handsome exhibit catalog. "You have been selected from among your peers to represent the best of contemporary art in the Mountain State. One of the most enduring and prestigious of the regional shows, the West Virginia Biennial celebrates 40 years of artistic excellence.”

From among the entry candidates, jurors Sarah Hall and Jennifer Dasal selected an original oil painting by Pat Cross entitled, Rhododendron Bud to Bloom, in celebration of the Official State Flower. With buds that taunt with reddening tips as winter thaws, the Rhododendron waits for Spring to herald her full glory.

"In this painting, I show each stage of development of the flower from its tender bud to the glorious maturity of the bloom," says Pat Cross, adding, "I'm fascinated by the process of growth, how it happens in phases. I find that more interesting and deeply encouraging than instant magic."

Painted on a 20" x 20" gallery wrap canvas, this bloom continues around the 1-5" deep edge giving more dimension to the piece. Pat Cross uses high-quality processes and materials in each of her artworks to ensure lasting impressions.

Rhododendron Bud to Bloom is one of a series of award-winning floral paintings by Pat Cross.
