Artist Statement

The geology of a landscape and the anatomy of the human form tell a rich history of our physical world--one I wish to know in all its complexity.

Often, I hear a language spoken by my subject—I strive to translate that language to pigment, line and form.

Using anatomical accuracy, saturated color and strength of composition, I portray my subject in the same light of curiosity that is filtered through my mental lens. In my oils of the landscape and human form, I combine the vitality of plein air with a personal interest in my subject. As I do this, I use multiple layers of oils (glazes) to give luminance through refracted light to the eye of the viewer.

To preserve the image for my collectors, I use only archival means of production. n

"Pat's paintings recapture traditional techniques while objectifying a contemporary viewpoint. Her paintings offer a series of formal and conceptual challenges often avoided by more experienced artists."
